Program Description

City tour will begin in the heart of Torun – Rynek (Main Square). In the center of the square stands Gothic Town Hall, which houses the town museum with a rich collection of sculptures, paintings and stained glass. In front of the entrance there is a bronze Monument of  Nicolaus Copernicus. He is the one who formulated a heliocentric model of the universe. Walking around the Main Square, the mansions of the Hansa merchants, such as Pod Gwiazdą or Dwor Artusa can be seen. Most of them are richly decorated and well preserved.

Next, visit to the Holy Spirit’s Church and Saint Mary’s Church. The second one comes from 14th century and was founded by Franciscans. Inside, visitors will be charmed by an original organ from the beginning of 16th century, medieval tombstones and colourful stained glass.

Afterwards, a magnificent Saint John’s Cathedral. Some of the oldest elements of this enormous building are dated back to the 13th century. Over the years this church was a religious centre for local community and was a witness of important Christian ceremonies – for example Nicolaus Copernicus was baptized here. But one of the most valuable treasureas is “Tuba Dei” – the biggest medieval bell in Poland from 1500.

Passing defensive walls and several towers like Sailor’s Gate or Bridge Gate you will reach the ruins of the Teutonic Knights’ castle – the headquarters of the Commander on the right bank of the Vistula.

In the newer part of historical Torun – Nowe Miasto you will see representative commercial residences like a  Golden Lion Pharmacy or “Pod Modrym Fartuchem” inn. Another historical object is a former Church of the Holy Trinity (now functions as a gallery) and Saint James’s Church.

After the guided tour, visit to the Gingerbread Museum. Afterwards lunch and free time (approx. 1 hour). Return to Warsaw in the evening.

This excursion is organized on private basis for small groups of 2 - 8 participants. During the shows organized at the Gingerbread Museum, customers join the group.
