Program Description

Discover the heart of Madeira, where scenic landscapes meet local culture and unique attractions.

You’ll begin with a ride on the Funchal cable car, gliding above the rooftops of the city up to Monte Hill. It’s not only a convenient transfer, but also a fantastic opportunity to admire panoramic views over the capital. At the top, you’ll visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Monte and stroll through the tropical garden, home to Madeira’s endemic plant species. Next, you’ll travel along a picturesque mountain road into the interior of the island. From the viewpoint at Eira do Serrado, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of dramatic cliffs and deep valleys – one of Madeira’s most impressive natural landscapes. You’ll then head to the secluded Valley of the Nuns (Curral das Freiras), hidden among the mountains. Here, you’ll taste local specialities, including liqueurs with chestnut, chocolate and passion fruit flavours, typical of the region.

The route continues to the other side of the mountain range, reaching Câmara de Lobos – a traditional fishing village with a charming harbour. This picturesque spot was a favourite of Winston Churchill, who often painted its scenery.

For those seeking extra excitement, there is an optional wicker toboggan ride from Monte, one of Madeira’s most unique and fun traditions.

The order of the itinerary and programme may be subject to change.

The tour can also be organised in a small group (up to 8 people) upon request, offering a more intimate experience.

A very interesting tour, with a great guide. There wasn`t enough time to visit the garden on Monte Hill.
