Program Description

Rijksmuseum is a place where art tells the story of the Netherlands in the 17th century. During this guided tour, you'll discover symbols, fascinating insights and hidden meanings that will give the museum's masterpieces a whole new context. It's the perfect opportunity to explore one of Europe's most important art museums from a perspective that a self-guided visit simply can't offer.

During the approximately two-hour guided tour, you'll step back into the Dutch Golden Age - a period of remarkable economic, commercial and cultural growth in the Netherlands. Your guide will introduce you to the lives of merchants, aristocrats and influential members of society, showing how everyday life and the transformations of the era were reflected in the art of the time.

As you explore the museum galleries, you'll admire masterpieces by Rembrandt, Johannes Vermeer and Frans Hals. Standing before Rembrandt's The Night Watch, your guide will reveal fascinating facts about this iconic painting and explain why its title is misleading. You'll also discover details and symbolic elements that are easy to overlook during a self-guided visit, helping you gain a deeper understanding of the artworks on display.

Once the guided tour has finished, you're free to stay in the museum for as long as you wish. Your ticket remains valid throughout the day, allowing you to explore more galleries at your own pace and revisit the works that impressed you the most. With more than 8,000 works of art in its collection, Rijksmuseum offers plenty more to discover.
